Web Site
I worked on the Seasons and Epal
sections. Feel free to add more we need each page to contain information that
was not given throughout the semester on our concept map. Be careful in changing the layouts of the page make sure you make the layout first then add information because it will give you a hard time if you don't. I made the concept Map
larger on the home page as at first it was to small to see. I linked the WMU Logo on the first page. What is are
final project for the students? I was thinking I would create a powerpoint for
my original item based on four seasons.I am a bit confused of how we are supposed to post the
standards for that we used on the home page. Other than that I will continue to do my part. Its starting to look good!

Team website
Hey everyone, now that the podcast is done we need to start working on the team website. We need to come up with how we are going to create it and the lay out we want to use. How should we group the lessons, podcast, digital story etc.

Issue with podcast
I tried to email you both but the file with the podcast won't attach because it is too big. Our podcast is over 7 minutes long when it is only supposed to be 3-5 minutes. I think we need to shorten it and this will also help with the issue of emailing it to you guys. Chelsea's part is 1 minute 58 seconds long. Kelli's part is over 3 minutes long and my part is 1 minute and 55 seconds long. I think that we all need to shorten our parts so that the final podcast is no more than five minutes long. Let me know what you guys think.
Help...
Hey guys my computer still isn't working properly and I can't open the googledoc with the podcast script. Can one of you copy and paste it into the blog or email it to me so I can see it please? It would be very helpful! Thanks.

Sending Podcast
Hey guys just a little more about the podcast. Chelsea I received your email with the podcast and the music. Thanks for sending those. Right now my computer isn't working too well so I am using a different one just for the night. I was unable to open the podcast because this computer won't allow me to for some reason. I am going to look at the podcast first thing tomorrow morning. Kelli let me know when you think you will be sending me yours. My goal is to have podcast done by Friday so that way I can email to both of you for review, just to make sure there are no changes that need to be made prior to submitting the final podcast.
Revising Concept Map
- Did we use all the terms that are listed under "terms"? Are we missing any terms that you may have included in your lesson plans or videos?
- Did we use all of the tools listed under "tools"? Are we missing any tools that you may have included in your lesson plans or videos?
- Is the E-pals section set up okay?
- Should we still add another section that says region even though we have them listed under E-pals?
- Do you see anything else that needs to be added to our map?
- Any spelling errors?

Podcast!
Hey everyone, we need to make sure that everybody's parts flow together before we begin recording for our podcast! So if you have a second go and check out the google doc. I just finished up what I plan on saying for my part, but I got stuck on the concept map area because I'm not sure how we will tie it in with the next part.

Fixing Concept Map
Hey everyone, if you have a second I need you to look at the concept map from the beginning of the project and compare it to your lesson plans. Is there anything on your lesson plans that needs to be added to the concept map? Are the things that need to be taken off the map? Is our project idea still relevant to our assignments? Etc. Thanks!

Podcast Script
Hey guys I was thinking that for the podcast script we should try to have it done by Wednesday or Thursday so we can all create our parts of it. I will combine the three together but I want to have a day or so to do it that way I can send it to you before the final podcast is posted so I can get your feedback on it if any changes need to be made. I added some more to the podcast script so read it over and let me know what you think.

Lesson Plan
For my lesson plan I decided to incorporate the E pals. The students have recorded data during the winter and will input different types of weather they observed and also the other states into their graph.

Podcast & Lesson Plan 2
Hey everyone! We need to dicuss who is going to do what for our podcast. We then need to create a script of what we are going to say and have it viewed by everyone. We also need to figure out what everyone is doing for their second lesson plan so no one is doing the same thing!
For the podcast I was thinking about talking about PBL, what it is and why we are using it. As well as talking about our topic and why it is important. I can also talk about the concept map and maybe some goals we have for the students. Where would you like to go from this point?
Also, for the second lesson plan I was thinking about having the students compare natural disasters or temperatures amoung various areas of the US. I would like to narrow this idea down a bit more, but haven't thought of what I'd like to do yet, I'll post more when I know.
And again we need to make sure thet everyone is participating in our project or they will end up being kicked out as our last member was!

Google Map
View Weather Comparisons in a larger map
This map gives directions to all of the areas our 3rd grade class will be writing to. We chose four different cities, each in a different region of the United States, so that our students will be able to talk about the differences in weather all around the continent with their E-Pals.

Google Map
I created the map as well and emailed everyone. Post it someone after it has been looked over. I will be unable to so please post!

Google Document
Hey group I have sent an invite to each one of you to the Google Document check your emails.
So far we have agreed on comparing weather across the country through Epals.
We need a specific grade level and Location.
Angela said we should break up the class into groups and choose location.
I would like one location to be California. What grade level were you'll thinking? Maybe 3rd grade because I want the class to be able to read and write.
At what point will the class contact these students? I was focusing on which season should we have the project. I am unsure of when exact should the students contact them.
What kind of questions will the students be asking?
Maybe What is their favorite season?
What are their favorite activities to do during the summer?
What do they do for fun?
Maybe even favorite television shows?
Can they send a picture of themselves?
Have they ever visited any states? Things of that nature?
What will they do with the information they will receive?
I was thinking maybe creating a poster board or PowerPoint of the information they received to present to the class.
Let me know what you think! Fill free to add this to the Google Document if agreed upon as a start.

Virtual Pen Pals
I was thinking for this assignment we could for instance have students from Michigan write to students in California about the weather conditions comparing the activities that can be done in the summer in California to that of Michigan.
E-Pal, Map, Movie Ideas
Okay everyone, we need to figure out what type of assignment we would do with our class to demonstrate cultural understanding and global awareness. Maybe we could do something like having the kids write to other students in a different region of the U.S. and they can talk about and describe the weather in their area. It's not super creative, but an idea. We then have to figure out how to incorporate a map into the assignment. We also need to discuss who is doing what concept for the digital movie. We can stick with what we did our lesson plans on if you'd like. I already have started a movie up for types of weather. We need to make sure that we are cover all concepts on the map as well!

Websites!
I wanted to use websites that were focused on kids. Since I will be teaching elementary. I'm not sure what level of teaching we as a group would like to focus on. If found a few websites that are focus on children's learning. Are we just focusing on the concepts as presenting it to students? Or are we finding websites that just relate to our project?
The weather channel for kids
http://theweatherchannelkids.com/weather-classroom-guides/teacher/
This link is more of a teachers guide. I found it pretty useful!
Weather Wiz Kids
http://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-forecasting.htm
We can always find information from this link.
http://www.weather.com/
I really liked this one!
http://urbanext.illinois.edu/treehouse/
Ill list a few more till we decide which direction we plan to go.
http://www.wunderground.com/
http://www.weather.com/encyclopedia/ For weather terms
http://www.timeanddate.com/weather/glossary.html
I had trouble narrowing them done but they all are very useful!

Lesson Plan One!
Hey everyone! We need to figure out what concept everyone wants to focus on for our lesson plan. Since there is six concepts on the map, two of us will need to take on an extra one. I am willing to take on one of them. I was thinking about doing the types of weather and careers involving the weather. Is that okay with everyone? And remember if you find other things to add to one of the concepts that's okay, I will go back through and update the concept map periodically.
We also need to decide on what types of websites we will need for our project so we can start evaluating them and posting them up here.

I like to ideas that are going so far! I think that the concept map looks great. The idea of each reporting on weather patterns in certain parts of the country or even where we are all at for the summer is a good idea. I just think we need to elaborate more on the concepts so we can gain as much information out of them as possible.
Example of Concept Map!
Here's an example of a concept map I just put together. The big idea was "predicting weather." Obviously there are plenty more terms and types of weather we can add to it, but this is just an idea. Let me know what you guys think and feel free to say you don't want something.
Kelli, I tried thinking of way to incorporate what you had said, but I was drawing a blank. So let me know what you think or how you were thinking about putting the CM together.
I will post something to the blog as soon as we all agree. I just though predicting weather was kind of a broad topic so we would have plenty to cover.
Again, let me know what you think!

Maybe we can compare weather forecast from the different cities we are
in. or divided the country into half and compare the weather over a
period of time. We could research the reason why the weather is
different for each area. I like the idea of branching off into different
types of weather. The weather can take on many forms.
The "Big Project" Idea
Hey everyone! We need to brainstorm some ideas for our concept map. I was thinking for the map we could have it branching off into things like different types of weather, careers involving weather, basic terms, etc. Any other ideas?
